Mike and Judy Greer Scholarship in memory of Mary Greer

Established by Mike and Judy Greer to honor the memory of Mike’s mother, who worked for 25 years in the Main Library Circulation Department. Awarded to University Libraries’ student employees who work in the UI Main Library. If a recipient matching this stated preference cannot be found, then preference is given to student employees working in one of the other University Libraries. You must be employed for a minimum of two semesters (which do not have to be consecutive) before you can apply for this award. This scholarship is renewable for as long as the recipient continues to qualify under the criteria; they must reapply each year. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance, excellent job performance, and be in good standing with the University, with preference for a minimum GPA of 3.5. *The University Libraries includes the Main Library, Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, and the Art, Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Music libraries. Students employed in the Law Library or other campus departmental libraries are not eligible, unless also employed at one of the listed University Libraries.

  2. You must submit a 500 word essay which will be evaluated on originality, creativity, and enthusiasm as well as quality of writing, including clarity, grammar, and spelling. Choose ONE of the following topics for your essay: 1) What have you learned about yourself working in the UI Libraries? 2) How has working at the UI Libraries helped you in your academic work? or, 3) Share your most memorable or challenging experience working in the UI Libraries.
  3. Letter of Support Request: Provide the name and email address of your supervisor at the UI Libraries who can provide a support statement on your behalf.

    The system will automatically send your supervisor information on how they can complete the recommendation. Make sure to notify your supervisor ahead of time to expect this email.
