Stanley Summer Scholarship for Asian Language Study

Awarded to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students in Asian Languages and Literatures/Asian Civilizations for intensive language study.

These scholarships may be used either in the United States or abroad, but will be awarded only for study in a recognized summer language program. The proposed summer course must provide the equivalent of a full academic year of language study in an intensive Russian or Asian language course. Such summer courses generally meet the equivalent of 20 hours a week for an eight-week term.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their Study Abroad Advisor to discuss their study abroad plans and scholarship eligibility before applying for this scholarship. Students who are pursuing Direct Enrollment programs are not allowed to use Federal Financial Aid or Iowa Scholarships to cover program costs if the hosting institution does not have a Federal School Code.

Preference will be given to students who demonstrate: (1) an aptitude and achievement in previous work in their chosen language, and (2) a serious commitment to incorporating this language in their future study and career goals. Consideration will be limited to students who intend to return to The University of Iowa for further study either upon completion of their summer work or after a limited time in a formal study-abroad program following the summer award period.

Final award of scholarship funds will be contingent upon acceptance into an intensive summer language program approved by the scholarship selection committee.
