UISRM Student Success Scholarship
The sport and recreation management (SRM) program, in its ongoing efforts to support all forms of student success, invites current SRM majors to apply for one of several available Student Success Scholarships. At least $5,000 is available to be distributed among all recipients.
All SRM majors (undergraduate or graduate program) are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a written essay (maximum three pages) describing how they have experienced success as a student by overcoming adversity, confronting challenges, showing resiliency or other examples of achieving successful outcomes on their academic journey. Awards will be made based on the essay plus demonstrated financial need and academic and extracurricular achievement. Scholarships will be credited directly to UBill charges to cover education-related expenses.
Applicants are eligible for one SRM Student Success Scholarship, but receipt of an SRM Student Success Scholarship does not disqualify anyone from applying for other types of SRM scholarships. Recipients may re-apply in future years for SRM Student Success Scholarships.
Criteria
All applications will be reviewed by a committee of SRM faculty and staff, and decisions will be made based on a combination of the following criteria:
• Demonstration of success as a student through adversity, challenges, resiliency or other examples of challenges that could have impeded academic progress.
• Declared major or master’s program must be Sport and Recreation Management (can be a double-major, but one major must be SRM). Students in the SRM undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MA) programs are eligible.
• Must be in good academic standing, not on academic probation, and a registered full-time student. (Less than full-time enrollment will be accepted if in the final semester before graduation or if a graduate student.)
• Financial need based on Office of Financial Aid objective metrics in combination with any additional information on financial need in response to question #1 in the written application.
• Information available on MAUI that may help confirm essay content and scholarship eligibility, such as grade report, first-generation status, enrollment status, program of study or academic standing.
• Academic and extracurricular achievement as represented in response to question #2 in the written application.
Applications must be submitted by March 8th.
All scholarships are made possible by generous gifts from SRM supporters. If you or someone you know would like to contribute to the continuation and expansion of scholarships in future years, please go to the our gift fund page. Thank you for supporting the SRM program!
