These scholarships will be awarded only for study (1) in a recognized summer language program, (2) in which students will take the equivalent of at least a full semester of language study in an Asian language course, as determined by the faculty in the Japanese, Chinese, and Korean programs.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their Study Abroad Advisor to discuss their study abroad plans and scholarship eligibility before applying for this scholarship. Students who are pursuing non-sponsored programs are not allowed to use this scholarship if the hosting institution does not have a Federal School Code.

Consideration will be limited to degree-seeking students who (1) have not graduated at the time of the summer program and will return to the University of Iowa, and (2) will continue to take language courses in the same language for which the scholarship was awarded, except in cases where they have already taken or tested out of fourth-year language or test out of fourth-year language immediately following the summer study, and (3) have the necessary GPA and meet all requirements for the program to which they are applying.
