Leona Zaharis Study Abroad Scholarship
Eligibility
University of Iowa undergraduate students who are planning to study abroad who are first-generation (parent(s) did not attend college). Recipients of the Leona Zaharis Scholarship who apply for other awards may receive need-based or merit-based scholarships concurrently.
Special Considerations
If there are any special considerations, concerns or barriers to your participation in study abroad you would like us to be aware of or help you address, please do not hesitate to discuss these with your study abroad advisor.
Expectations
This scholarship was established by Cathy Zaharis (BBA finance ‘82) in honor of her mother, Leona Zaharis, a life-long resident of Iowa, seeking to encourage curiosity and exploring the world through Study Abroad.
Upon return, students will be encouraged to share experiences by participating in an annual event celebrating Cathy Zaharis’ generous gift in her mother’s, Leona, name. Additionally, students are strongly encouraged to share their experiences with Study Abroad and prospective students by engaging with our social media pages, blogging from abroad, and/or submitting photos/video to use in promotional materials.
